The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day warning strike beginning Friday, September 12, 2025, to press for the fulfillment of their demands.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Agbor Affiong.

According to the statement, the decision followed NARD’s online National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, September 11, 2025.

“Arising from the NARD E-NEC meeting held on Wednesday, the 10th of September, 2025, which extended into the early hours of Thursday, the 11th of September, 2025, the NEC members unanimously resolved to embark on a five-day warning strike.

“The strike will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 12th September 2025, and will end on Tuesday, 16th September 2025.

“All centres are hereby directed to duly inform their hospital managements and continue to press home our collective demands,” the statement read.

Earlier in the week, NARD President, Osundara Zenith, explained that members planned to shut down public hospitals nationwide to demand urgent action on poor working conditions, lack of power supply, downgrading of certificates, inadequate remuneration, and other related concerns.

It is worth noting that the FCT branch of the Association of Resident Doctors is already on a separate seven-day warning strike which commenced on Monday.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
