BREAKING: PROTESTS ERUPT AFTER POLICE KILLS STUDENT HEADED FOR WAEC EXAM
A WAEC candidate was tragically killed by a stray police bullet during a high-speed chase in Ibadan, igniting public outrage and fresh demands for police reform.
The incident occurred near Gbagi Market Road, where police officers were pursuing suspected internet fraudsters and opened fire. In the process, a bullet struck a student who was riding on a motorcycle alongside his twin brother on their way to sit for the WAEC examination.
The tragedy sparked protests from traders and residents, who marched to the Oyo State Secretariat demanding justice, accountability, and an end to reckless police operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the 17-year-old victim had left home that morning full of excitement, eager to sit for his WAEC exam. Moments later, tragedy struck. His twin brother, visibly traumatized, reportedly witnessed him slump into a pool of blood after being hit. Heartbroken market women cried out in grief, calling him “a future lost too soon.”
The incident has once again raised pressing question: Will this latest tragedy finally trigger meaningful police reform and stricter firearm protocols?
The Oyo State authorities must respond urgently—not only to calm growing public anger but also to ensure such needless loss of innocent lives never happens again.
