President Bola Tinubu has convened a meeting with Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (Rtd.), who has recently been appointed as the sole administrator for Rivers State.

Ibas arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja precisely at 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday for discussions with Tinubu.

In a nationwide address on Tuesday, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly for a period of six months. The president cited ongoing political turmoil, constitutional breaches, and security concerns as the driving factors behind this significant action. The unrest in Rivers State has been exacerbated by an intense power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

To address the situation, Tinubu appointed Ibas to oversee the administration of the state until stability can be achieved.

Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, served under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2021.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
