President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has debunked claims suggesting that his administration directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to halt the registration of new political parties.

Speaking during his address to members of the National Assembly on Democracy Day, the president firmly stated that no such directive had ever been issued.

“I have never stopped the registration of any political party,” Tinubu declared, reaffirming his administration’s respect for democratic processes.

He also dismissed accusations that he is working toward establishing a one-party system in Nigeria.

However, Tinubu emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be acting improperly if it barred those interested in joining the party. He welcomed new entrants from Delta and Akwa Ibom States, saying, “You are all welcome to the progressives forum.”

In a pointed remark directed at opposition parties, the president added, “I will not assist them in putting their houses in order. It is indeed a pleasure to watch your houses in disarray.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
