BREAKING: TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IMPOSES VISA BAN ON NIGERIANS ACCUSED OF FUNDING TERRORISM, RELIGIOUS ATTACKS
The United States government under President Donald Trump has announced new visa restrictions targeting Nigerians accused of financing or supporting acts of terrorism and religious violence—particularly attacks described as genocide against Christians.
The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday through his official X account.
Rubio stated that the move is part of Washington’s renewed effort to address global violations of religious freedom and hold accountable individuals or governments implicated in such crimes.
In his statement, he wrote:
“The United States is taking decisive action in response to the atrocities and violence against Christians in Nigeria and around the world.
The @StateDept will restrict U.S. visas for those who knowingly direct, authorize, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.
This visa policy applies to Nigeria and other governments or individuals that persecute people for their religious beliefs.”
The restrictions will reportedly affect not only individuals in Nigeria, but also persons in other countries linked to similar violations.
However, the Nigerian government has dismissed the claims, insisting there is no genocide targeting Christians in the country. Officials maintain that Nigeria’s security challenges cut across all regions and affect citizens of all religious backgrounds, not one faith group in particular.
The announcement has already stirred strong reactions both within Nigeria and internationally, with many awaiting further clarification from both governments.
