BREAKING: VAN DIJK COMMITS FUTURE TO LIVERPOOL WITH NEW TWO-YEAR DEAL.
Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield by another two years in what he describes as a “proud” and “incredible” moment in his career.
“It’s a feeling of joy,” the Dutch defender said. “To continue this journey with Liverpool is amazing. I’m so happy — this club means everything to me.”
Now 33, Van Dijk has made 314 appearances for the Reds, scoring 27 goals since joining from Southampton in January 2018 for what was then a world-record £75 million fee for a defender. His impact has been immense, guiding Liverpool to a golden era under former boss Jürgen Klopp.
During his tenure, Van Dijk helped secure the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also came runner-up in the 2019 Ballon d’Or voting, narrowly edged out by Lionel Messi.
Just last month, Van Dijk admitted uncertainty about his future at Anfield, saying he had “no idea” if he would stay. But on Sunday, he hinted at a positive development — one that has now been confirmed.
“There was never any doubt. It was always going to be Liverpool,” he revealed. “This is where I belong. Someone recently called me an adopted Scouser — I’m proud of that. It means the world to me and my family.”
Van Dijk also took over the captaincy in 2023 following Jordan Henderson’s departure and has continued to be a central figure both on and off the pitch.
With new contracts now in place for both Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk, attention turns to Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose future with the club remains unresolved.
Meanwhile, Liverpool edge closer to another historic milestone — equaling Manchester United’s record of 20 top-flight titles. The Reds sit 13 points clear of Arsenal with six games to go and could clinch the Premier League crown as early as this weekend if results go their way.
