The body of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived home from London, touching down at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State on Tuesday.

Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82 after battling an undisclosed illness in a UK hospital, will be laid to rest later today in his hometown of Daura, following Islamic burial traditions.

The late leader’s remains were received at the airport by a special nine-man committee set up by President Bola Tinubu to handle the funeral arrangements. The committee is made up of top government officials, religious leaders, and representatives of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Also on ground to pay her respects was Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who arrived earlier dressed in black. The mood at the airport was solemn, with military officers performing a brief ceremonial salute before the convoy carrying Buhari’s body left for Daura.

The Federal Government had already declared a national period of mourning in honor of the late former President. Tributes have been pouring in from across Nigeria and around the world, remembering Buhari for his years of service as both a military ruler and two-term civilian President.

Final preparations for his burial are underway in Daura, where dignitaries, family members, and sympathizers are expected to gather to bid him farewell.
