Garba Shehu, former presidential spokesperson to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that Buhari’s administration set a new tone in governance by emphasizing personal integrity and service to ordinary Nigerians.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Shehu introduced his new book titled “According to the President: Lessons from Presidential Spokespersons.” The book, according to him, serves as a guide for students, journalists, and PR professionals, and captures the major milestones of Buhari’s eight-year rule.

“President Buhari always believed his work should speak for him,” Shehu said. “He wanted his efforts to reflect in the lives of the poor — from farmers to traders, and especially young people.”

He highlighted the administration’s push to improve the welfare of everyday Nigerians through initiatives aimed at small businesses, youth development, agriculture, and infrastructural projects.

“Beyond projects and policies, what stood out about Buhari’s government was the culture of personal integrity it brought into public service,” Shehu added. “That was a strong part of the leadership style he embodied.”

Shehu’s book offers a behind-the-scenes look at presidential communication and aims to inspire a new generation of leaders and media professionals.
