BUNI DISMISSES CLAIMS OF DEFECTION TO OPPOSITION COALITION, LABELS RUMORS FALSE
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has strongly rejected rumors suggesting that he and several other APC governors were planning to join the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Buni's office described the circulating text message as "groundless fabrications" and "unfounded assumptions." The statement emphasized that the claims were entirely disconnected from the truth.
Mohammed further explained that those behind the rumors had no insight into Buni’s political intentions. He stressed that at no point had the governor considered leaving the APC.
"Buni is not just another member of the APC; he embodies the party in every way. His pivotal roles as a two-term National Secretary and National Chairman have cemented his place within the APC," the statement clarified. "The idea of him leaving the party is completely unfounded."
The statement also suggested that the individuals behind the rumors were likely motivated by envy of Buni’s political standing and influence within the party. Mohammed concluded by saying such speculations were nothing more than "wishful thinking."
Buni's response comes amid increasing political speculation as the 2027 elections draw closer. While some within the PDP have speculated about potential defections from the ruling APC, Buni reaffirmed his strong allegiance to the party and its future direction.
Under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, the APC has experienced various political developments, with some figures eyeing potential shifts as the 2027 elections approach.
