Afrobeats keeps getting louder on the global stage, and Burna Boy just added another historic moment to the list.

The Grammy-winning Nigerian star is set to feature alongside global pop icon Shakira on the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The song, titled Dai Dai, is scheduled for release on May 14 ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Shakira confirmed the collaboration in a teaser shared online, writing: “From Maracanã Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the @FIFAWorldCup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready!”

With this collaboration, Burna Boy becomes only the second Nigerian artiste to appear on an official FIFA World Cup song, following Davido’s contribution to Hayya Hayya (Better Together) during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And honestly, this moment feels bigger than music.

For years, African artistes fought to be included in global conversations.

Now, they are helping lead them.

Burna Boy’s rise from local acclaim to international stadium stages reflects how far Afrobeats has travelled in the last decade. What was once considered a regional sound is now shaping pop culture worldwide.

His involvement in the FIFA anthem also strengthens his growing connection with global football entertainment. The singer previously performed at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in Turkey and has continued building a presence on some of the world’s biggest sporting stages.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be one of the biggest in history, and having an African voice on its official soundtrack is another reminder that Afrobeats is no longer “next up.”

It is already here.

And at this point, Burna Boy is not just carrying Nigerian music.
He is carrying African culture into rooms the industry once struggled to enter.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
