Businessman and entrepreneur Richard Akinaka has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akinaka was declared the winner on Thursday at the district collation centre located at St. Peter’s Primary School in Yenagoa after emerging as the sole candidate in the party’s primary election.

The result was announced by Bidi Weris, who confirmed Akinaka as the PDP flagbearer for the senatorial district.

Speaking after his emergence, Akinaka expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for their confidence in him, describing the nomination as a “sacred trust.”

He said residents of the district had endured years of underrepresentation and stagnation, promising to provide effective representation and renewed hope if elected.

According to him, his campaign and eventual service would focus on delivering tangible benefits to constituents rather than pursuing personal interests.

Akinaka also expressed confidence that the PDP would secure victory in the general election through collective efforts and party unity.

His emergence officially positions him as the PDP candidate for Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
