Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has risen to the top of Africa’s Twitch streaming scene following a record-breaking livestream with Afrobeats superstar Davido.

The milestone was achieved after a highly anticipated joint stream held on Wednesday, which sparked a massive surge in followers and viewership across the continent. Within days, Carter Efe overtook fellow Nigerian creator Shank Comics to become the most-followed African streamer on the platform.

As of Thursday, checks showed that Carter Efe had amassed over 406,000 followers on Twitch. This marked a sharp rise from the about 322,000 followers he had just a day before the livestream. The spike, which saw him gain roughly 160,000 followers in four days, has been widely linked to the excitement surrounding his collaboration with Davido.

The previous record holder, Shank Comics, currently has about 233,000 followers, having set the benchmark roughly six months ago.

Beyond the follower growth, the livestream itself made history. Davido reportedly broke the record for the most-watched Twitch livestream in Africa, pulling in around 83,000 viewers. He also became the first African streamer to cross 20,000 subscribers on the platform during the session.

The stream delivered a mix of entertainment and star power, as Davido connected Carter Efe with several high-profile figures live on air. These included his wife, popular nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and even a shout-out to Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy. In another highlight, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen joined the stream via a call, thrilling fans with a rare blend of music, comedy, and football.

Social media reactions intensified when content creator Enzo made a surprise appearance, challenging Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base. The moment quickly went viral, adding to the buzz around the already explosive livestream.

With this achievement, Carter Efe has not only cemented his place at the top of Africa’s Twitch rankings but has also shown how collaborations between digital creators and music superstars can reshape the continent’s online entertainment landscape.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
