CATHOLIC PRIEST, REV. FR. KELVIN UGWU, CRITICISES ONLINE PRAYER SESSIONS

Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, a Nigerian Catholic priest, has stirred controversy after condemning the popular trend of joining daily online prayer sessions. In a Facebook post, he described such prayers as “the most useless forms of prayers”, insisting they achieve nothing spiritually.

According to him, these sessions—often filled with shouting, demon-binding, and aggressive declarations—do not build a genuine relationship with God. Instead, he argued that they only “exercise the jaw, hands, and legs” and strengthen people’s connection with imaginary demons rather than with God.

Fr. Ugwu accused many online prayer hosts of turning religion into business, claiming they create fear-driven content to attract followers and profit from them. He questioned why such “demon-killing ministers” still move with heavy security and bulletproof cars if their prayers are truly powerful.

He ended by saying people may continue with such practices if they choose, but “don’t say you were not told.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
