Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been named the UEFA Champions League Player of the Season for 2024–25. UEFA announced the season awards on Sunday, also naming seven PSG players in the Team of the Season following the club’s historic first Champions League title.

PSG clinched the trophy in emphatic fashion, defeating Inter Milan 5–0 in Saturday’s final in Munich.

Although Dembélé didn’t score in the final, he provided two assists and played a pivotal role throughout the tournament, scoring eight goals overall. His performances earned high praise from UEFA’s Technical Observer Group.

“Dembélé has emerged as a leader within the PSG squad, particularly evident in the final with his relentless pressing from the front,” the committee noted. “His intelligent movement and ability to drop deep consistently created problems for opponents and gave PSG a numerical edge in midfield.”

Alongside Dembélé, PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma (goalkeeper), Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, and Nuno Mendes (defenders), Vitinha (midfield), and teenage sensation Désiré Doué (forward) were all included in the Team of the Season.

The remaining four spots went to non-PSG players: Alessandro Bastoni of runners-up Inter Milan, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Barcelona duo Raphinha—joint top scorer—and Lamine Yamal. “Our selection emphasizes the exceptional fluidity and mobility in PSG’s attack,” UEFA stated. “The chosen forwards exemplify a system where players frequently interchange positions to maintain constant offensive pressure.”

Désiré Doué was also named Young Player of the Season, edging out Barcelona’s 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. Doué’s impact in the knockout rounds was particularly notable, capped with a Player of the Match performance in the final, where he became the first teenager to score twice in a Champions League final.

UEFA lauded Doué as “a revelation this season,” adding, “his breakout performances, especially in the latter stages, were crucial to PSG’s success.”

Dembélé’s award could influence this year’s Ballon d’Or voting, scheduled for September 22. PSG’s head coach supported his case, saying, “I’d give the Ballon d’Or to Ousmane Dembélé—especially for his defensive efforts.”

Other contenders for the Ballon d’Or include Yamal, Raphinha, and Donnarumma.
