CHAOS IN LAGOS AS MOTORISTS ATTACK VIO OFF
Drama unfolded at Mile 2, Lagos State, on Tuesday, August 26, when a routine inspection by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) turned violent.
According to eyewitnesses, the officials had used their patrol van to block a motorist’s car in the middle of the busy road. While it remains unclear what prompted the action, events quickly spiraled out of control.
In a viral video circulating on social media, one of the car’s occupants was seen stripping down to his underwear before physically assaulting a VIO officer. Another occupant joined in, landing punches on another official as a crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the chaos.
In the heat of the confrontation, the driver of the VIO patrol van sped away, leaving his colleagues behind to deal with the attackers.
The incident has sparked heated discussions online, with many Nigerians questioning both the conduct of the motorists and the VIO officials. As of now, the agency has not released an official statement regarding the clash.
This latest confrontation adds to the growing concerns about the tense relationship between traffic enforcement officers and motorists in Lagos.
