Authorities in the United States have confirmed that the suspected shooter of Charlie Kirk, a well-known conservative activist and close ally of Donald Trump, has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

The development comes after former President Donald Trump announced on Friday that a suspect had been taken into custody following a massive manhunt. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump described the killing as “heinous,” adding:

“I think we have him… I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody.”

Trump further revealed that the suspect’s arrest was made possible after someone close to him — reportedly a minister — alerted law enforcement, which eventually led to Robinson being handed over to authorities.

How the Attack Happened

Charlie Kirk, 31, was shot on Wednesday during a live debate event at Utah Valley University in Orem. According to investigators, the shooter had gained rooftop access before firing a single round from a bolt-action rifle, striking Kirk in the neck as he responded to a question on mass shootings.

The tragic incident triggered chaos as the audience of nearly 3,000 fled in panic. The gunman managed to escape initially by jumping off the roof and disappearing into a nearby neighborhood.

Investigators later recovered the suspected rifle, alongside palm prints and footprints, in a wooded area close to the scene.

FBI and Police Findings

Security footage released by the FBI showed the suspect wearing a black long-sleeved top emblazoned with a bald eagle and U.S. flag, along with sunglasses and a cap. Officials said the shooter “blended in well” with students on campus before launching the deadly attack.

Trump’s Tribute

Trump praised Kirk’s influence, calling him a strong voice for young conservatives. He also announced that Kirk would be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S.

“In many ways, he’s bigger now because of what happened. It’s a shame that that voice has been stopped,” Trump said.

Kirk’s Legacy

Charlie Kirk was the co-founder and president of Turning Point USA, a conservative student movement that played a key role in mobilizing young voters for the Republican Party. He was in Utah as part of his “American Comeback Tour”, a 15-event speaking series across U.S. college campuses.

The FBI has confirmed Robinson’s arrest but has not yet released details about his motives. Investigations are ongoing.
