Veteran entertainer Charly Boy has once again opened up about his controversial 2014 confrontation with former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha, insisting he has no regrets over what happened.

Speaking during a recent interview, Charly Boy recalled the dramatic moment he seized the microphone from Okorocha while the former governor was speaking during his father’s burial ceremony.

According to the entertainer, he believed the event was turning into a political gathering rather than a solemn family occasion, something he said he could not tolerate.

“Mmhmm. Is that a crime? I for don slap am. He wanted to use my father’s burial as a campaign for politics. And you don’t do that. Not when I’m around,” he said during the interview.

Charly Boy explained that emotions were already high at the time and that he felt strongly about protecting the integrity of the ceremony.

He further claimed that he personally asked the former governor to leave the venue, stressing that the event took place in what he described as “his territory.”

“And he knew he was in my territory. Even with all his bodyguards, na my territory him dey,” he added.

The confrontation remains one of the most talked-about celebrity-political clashes in recent Nigerian history, especially because of how openly it unfolded in public.

At the time, reactions were deeply divided.

While some Nigerians praised Charly Boy for standing against what they saw as political opportunism, others criticised the manner in which the confrontation happened.

Known for his outspoken personality and rebellious public image, Charly Boy has never shied away from controversial conversations, especially when politics and public accountability are involved.

Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most vocal entertainers, often using his platform to challenge authority and social norms.

His latest comments have once again revived conversations around the growing intersection between politics, celebrity influence, and public events in Nigeria.

And more than a decade later, it’s clear the incident is still one of those moments Nigerians haven’t forgotten.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
