CHELSEA STILL BELIEVE SEASON CAN BE SAVED DESPITE POOR RUN — MCFARLANE
Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane has said the club still believes it can rescue its season despite a disappointing run of results that led to the dismissal of Liam Rosenior.
He spoke on Friday ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United on Sunday.
Chelsea are hoping to bounce back after losing five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring a single goal.
A heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday was the final result that ended Rosenior’s 106-day spell in charge of the club.
McFarlane, who also briefly managed Chelsea after Enzo Maresca’s departure in January, addressed reporters for the first time since Rosenior’s exit.
He was asked about reports of tension between Rosenior and the players, but declined to comment on internal matters.
According to him, the focus is now on improving performances and finishing the season strongly.
McFarlane admitted recent weeks have been difficult but said Chelsea still has the quality needed to turn things around.
He praised the squad and described several players as among the best in the world in their positions.
The interim manager said belief remains high within the dressing room and insisted the team can still get its season back on track.
Chelsea now views the FA Cup as a major opportunity to recapture pride and end the campaign on a positive note.
Victory over Leeds would send them into the final and provide momentum after a difficult spell.
McFarlane also confirmed that Brazilian winger Estevao will miss the rest of the season through injury.
He added that it is unclear whether the youngster will recover in time for the World Cup, which begins in June.
Chelsea’s season has been marked by inconsistency, but McFarlane believes there is still enough time to finish on a positive note.
