Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie says her 2025 Ballon d’Or nomination is a reward for years of hard work and dedication.

The 24-year-old has been shortlisted for the prestigious Yacine Trophy, awarded to the Best Women’s Goalkeeper in the world — making her the first African to ever receive this honour.

Nnadozie has had an incredible year for both club and country. She played a starring role in Paris FC’s Coupe de France Féminine triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in May, making the decisive save in a 5-4 penalty shootout win.

Since moving to Brighton & Hove Albion, she has continued to impress, also helping Nigeria clinch the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. Her performances earned her the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award after keeping four clean sheets in six matches.

Speaking in a video shared on the Super Falcons’ official X page, Nnadozie expressed her gratitude:

“This nomination means a lot to me. It’s a joy for me and my family. It shows that all the hard work, consistency, and prayers have paid off.”

Her historic achievement is being celebrated across Africa, with many hailing her as an inspiration for the next generation of female footballers.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
