CHINA VOWS SUPPORT FOR CUBA AFTER US THREATS

China has pledged to provide “support and assistance” to Cuba amid rising tensions with the United States, which recently made assertive threats toward Havana following dramatic developments in Venezuela.

At a regular press briefing, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing is deeply concerned about recent U.S. actions and has consistently opposed what it describes as coercion and interference in Cuba’s affairs. He reiterated that China stands ready to back Cuba amid pressure from Washington, urging the United States to stop undermining regional peace and stability.

China also called on the U.S. to immediately lift its decades‑long economic blockade and sanctions against Cuba, which Beijing says violate international norms and harm the Cuban people.

Chinese officials have repeatedly echoed this position at international forums and press briefings, affirming long‑standing diplomatic support for Havana’s sovereignty and development path.

The heightened tensions come after U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Cuba “is ready to fall” and suggested the island could face pressure similar to that applied to Venezuela after the U.S. captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro earlier in January.

China and Cuba have maintained close political ties for decades, and Beijing’s recent commitment is part of broader diplomatic efforts to support Havana amid geopolitical strains and ongoing U.S. pressure.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
