CHINA VOWS TO PROTECT ITS INTERESTS AMID FRESH US SANCTIONS ON IRAN

China has vowed to take necessary measures to protect its interests after the United States announced plans to intensify economic pressure on Iran. Beijing's response came after Washington threatened additional sanctions against entities accused of supporting Tehran, including some organisations operating in China.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, said on Tuesday that Beijing had repeatedly opposed what it described as unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States. He maintained that China would take appropriate steps to defend its legitimate rights and interests in response to the latest American measures.

The statement followed the US administration's announcement of a broader campaign aimed at cutting off Iran's sources of revenue and increasing economic pressure on Tehran. Washington has also warned countries and businesses dealing with Iran that they could face secondary sanctions.

The latest development could further strain relations between Washington and Beijing, particularly as China remains an important economic partner of Iran. The United States has been seeking to discourage international companies and governments from maintaining business ties with Tehran as part of its wider pressure campaign.
