The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) and the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) are mobilising capital market stakeholders to support efforts to grow Nigeria’s market to a target of ₦750 trillion.

The initiative highlights growing efforts to deepen the country's capital market, attract more investment and strengthen its role in financing businesses and national development.

A larger capital market can provide companies with access to funds for expansion, infrastructure development and new projects. It can also give investors more opportunities to invest in businesses and financial instruments while supporting wealth creation over the long term.

Achieving a ₦750 trillion market valuation, however, will require sustained growth in investor participation, stronger corporate performance and continued confidence in the market. Improvements in market infrastructure, regulatory transparency and investor protection will also be important.

The involvement of CIS and ASHON reflects the importance of collaboration among stockbrokers, securities dealers, regulators, listed companies and other financial market participants. These groups play important roles in connecting investors with investment opportunities and supporting efficient market operations.

Expanding retail participation could also help deepen the market. Making investment information easier to understand and improving public financial literacy may encourage more Nigerians to explore legitimate investment opportunities.

However, market growth should not be measured by valuation alone. Sustainable development also depends on liquidity, effective corporate governance, reliable disclosures and the ability of businesses to use raised capital productively.

For Nigeria, a stronger capital market could provide an alternative source of funding beyond bank loans and government borrowing. It could also help channel domestic savings into productive investments and support private-sector expansion.

The ₦750 trillion target therefore represents an ambitious objective for the industry. Its achievement will depend on coordinated action, sound economic conditions and reforms that encourage both local and international investors to participate with confidence.
