CIVIL SOCIETY COUNCIL URGES AKPABIO, NATASHA TO EMBRACE OUT-OF-COURT SETTLEMENT

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has called for an amicable, out-of-court resolution to the legal dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the prolonged litigation as a drain on time and national resources.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the Council’s Executive Director, Ambassador Blessing Akinlosotu, appealed to all parties involved to show restraint and avoid escalating the issue, which has drawn widespread media coverage and public debate.

“This issue has unfortunately been over-politicized, with widespread commentary often based on misinformation. We’re not here to engage in the merits of the case but to advocate for calm and discourage further polarization,” Akinlosotu said.

He cautioned against public statements that could influence judicial proceedings or distort public perception, stressing that the matter is already before competent courts.

The Council also urged elder statesmen to avoid divisive rhetoric and advised civil society groups to focus on constructive nation-building rather than being drawn into political disputes.

Reaffirming its dedication to peace and national unity, the Council warned that any of its members found inciting unrest under the pretense of civic activism would face disciplinary action.

It further called on the judiciary to adjudicate the case with professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to due process.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
