CLUB WORLD CUP 2025: SIX TEAMS SECURE QUARTER-FINAL SPOTS
Al-Hilal pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 Club World Cup by knocking out Manchester City and advancing to the quarter-finals.
The Saudi Pro League champions edged City 4-3 after extra time in a thrilling encounter played in the early hours of Tuesday.
Manchester City opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Bernardo Silva, but Al-Hilal hit back with goals from Marcos Leonardo and Malcom. Erling Haaland restored parity for City in the 55th minute.
In extra time, Kalidou Koulibaly nodded in a corner from Ruben Neves to put Al-Hilal ahead again, but Phil Foden responded swiftly for City. However, Leonardo struck once more in the 112th minute, sealing a famous victory for the Saudis.
Elsewhere, Fluminense shocked Inter Milan with a 2-0 win on Monday night, thanks to goals from German Cano and Hercules, earning a spot in the final eight.
Al-Hilal will now face Fluminense in the quarter-finals.
Other quarter-final matchups include Bayern Munich versus Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea against Palmeiras.
