COMMERCIAL DRIVERS URGED TO INSTALL DASH CAMS TO TACKLE RISING INSECURITY
Operators of commercial vehicles across Nigeria have been urged to adopt dashboard cameras, commonly known as dash cams, as part of efforts to address growing insecurity on highways.
The call was made by Sterling Human Resource Development and Logistics Limited in a statement issued on Friday.
The company said rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and violent attacks on inter-state routes make it necessary for transport operators to adopt technology-driven security solutions.
It noted that collaboration between private operators, transport unions, and security agencies is essential to improve safety on Nigerian roads.
According to the firm, installing dash cams in buses, taxis, and logistics vehicles would help provide real-time visual evidence of incidents.
The company said such devices could assist law enforcement agencies in tracking criminals and improving investigations and prosecutions.
It also explained that dash cams can record suspicious movements, discourage criminal activity, and provide reliable evidence in disputes or attacks.
The firm urged transport unions, fleet operators, and individual drivers to prioritise passenger safety by investing in affordable surveillance technology.
It also called on government agencies to introduce policies that could encourage or mandate the use of dash cams in commercial transportation.
According to the statement, security should be treated as a shared responsibility among all stakeholders in the transport sector.
The company said integrating simple technologies into transport systems would improve intelligence gathering and response to crime.
It reaffirmed its commitment to safety and innovation in the logistics sector and encouraged cooperation with security agencies.
The firm added that data collected through such devices should be properly utilised within legal frameworks to support efforts in curbing criminal activities.
Rising insecurity on Nigerian highways, including kidnappings and armed attacks, has continued to raise concerns among commuters and transport operators, with limited surveillance often affecting law enforcement response.
