A defendant in the alleged coup plot case, Abdulkadir Sani, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of his arraignment on Wednesday, while several other defendants were still awaiting as proceedings were set to begin.

Sani reportedly arrived early at the court premises, with sources indicating he is the only accused person not currently in custody. The remaining defendants are being held by security agencies.

The Federal Government had earlier filed a 13-count charge against the suspects, involving allegations of terrorism, conspiracy, and failure to report an alleged plan to overthrow the government.\

Those named in the case include a retired Major-General, Mohammed Ibrahim Gana; retired Navy Captain, Erasmus Ochegobia Victor; police inspector, Ahmed Ibrahim; Zekeri Umoru; Bukar Kashim Goni; Abdulkadir Sani; and former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, who is currently said to be at large.

According to the charge, the defendants allegedly conspired in 2025 in Abuja to commit acts of terrorism and “levy war” against the Nigerian state, in violation of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, as well as the Criminal Code.

They were also accused of failing to disclose intelligence about the alleged plan or take steps to prevent it, despite being aware of the alleged conspiracy.

The case is expected to be heard before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the charges will be read and pleas taken.

As of the time of filing this report, court proceedings had not yet commenced, while security was tightened around the court premises ahead of the arraignment.
