COURT CONVICTS EX-POWER MINISTER SALEH MAMMAN FOR MONEY LAUNDERING
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has convicted former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, on 12 amended counts bordering on money laundering.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on Thursday, holding that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission successfully proved its case against the former minister beyond a reasonable doubt.
Despite Mamman’s absence in court, the judge found him guilty on all the charges filed by the EFCC.
Mamman, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari between August 2019 and September 2021, was prosecuted over the alleged diversion and laundering of funds connected to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.
According to the EFCC, the former minister conspired with government officials and private companies to divert public funds intended for critical power sector projects.
Justice Omotosho stated that the court was satisfied with the prosecution’s evidence before proceeding with the conviction on all counts.
