COURT ORDERS ARREST OF KWARA NSCDC COMMANDANT
A Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has ordered the arrest of the Kwara State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly failing to appear in court.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Adebayo Qudus Dupe, directed the Kwara State Commissioner of Police to apprehend the NSCDC Commandant and produce him in court on the next adjourned date, June 10, 2026.
The order was issued following the Commandant’s absence during proceedings related to a case involving officers under his command. Reports indicate the matter borders on allegations of unprovoked abuse of authority and assault on a lawyer in Kwara State.
The development has caused a stir within security circles in the state. The Nigerian Bar Association (Kwara branch) had earlier dragged some NSCDC officers to court over the alleged assault on one of its members.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara NSCDC Command is yet to issue an official statement on the court order.
This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between some security agencies and members of the public, particularly legal practitioners, over issues of rights and professionalism while performing their duties.
The case has been adjourned to allow the Commandant to appear before the court as directed. Further updates are expected as the matter progresses.
