COURT SENTENCES FORMER POWER MINISTER SALEH MAMMAN TO 75 YEARS FOR ₦33.8 BILLION FRAUD
The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman to 75 years in prison over his involvement in a ₦33.8 billion fraud case linked to federal power projects.
The judgment was delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, who found the former minister guilty on multiple counts and ordered that the sentences run consecutively, bringing the total jail term to 75 years.
According to the court, the sentence will take effect from the moment Mamman is arrested and taken into custody. The judge further directed all relevant security agencies, including international policing bodies such as Interpol, to ensure his arrest wherever he may be found.
Justice Omotosho also ordered the forfeiture of all assets and funds recovered from the convict to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
In addition, the court ruled that Mamman is liable to refund outstanding funds linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects, estimated to be part of the disputed ₦22 billion allocation connected to the case.
The ruling marks one of the most significant corruption convictions in recent years involving a former high-ranking government official in Nigeria’s power sector, reinforcing ongoing efforts by anti-graft agencies to recover mismanaged public funds.
Authorities are expected to begin enforcement procedures immediately as efforts intensify to locate and apprehend the former minister.
