COURT SETS DECEMBER 2 FOR JUDGMENT IN EL-RUFAI’S ₦1 BILLION RIGHTS SUIT
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed December 2 for judgment in a ₦1 billion fundamental rights suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The suit names the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation as respondents.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik set the date on Tuesday after the adoption of the parties’ court documents.
El-Rufai’s lawyer was absent when the case was called, prompting the judge to deem his filed documents adopted.
Counsel for the ICPC, Abdul Mohammed, SAN, adopted the commission’s documents and urged the court to dismiss the suit in its entirety.
Lawyers representing the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation also adopted their respective documents and asked for the case to be dismissed.
El-Rufai’s counsel, Ubong Akpan, later arrived and apologised for his lateness. When he sought permission to formally adopt his documents, the judge informed him that they had already been deemed adopted.
The court then adjourned the case until December 2 for judgment.
