COURT SHIFTS RULING ON EL-RUFAI’S BAIL APPLICATION TO JUNE
The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the ruling on the bail application of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026.
According to Channels Television on Tuesday, Justice Darius Khobo moved the date after proceedings in the ongoing case in which the former governor is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial crimes and abuse of office, filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai was present in court on Tuesday, arriving around 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services (DSS). Security was tightened around the court premises, with movement restricted during proceedings, while supporters of the former governor also gathered outside.
Speaking after the court session, his counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated adjournments of the bail hearing, describing them as “politically motivated.”
The court subsequently adjourned the matter to the first week of June 2026 for ruling on the bail application.
The development comes amid earlier claims by El-Rufai of what he described as a “fresh plot” to implicate him and frustrate his release on bail. He alleged that there were attempts to ensure his continued detention through what he called “malicious orchestrations.”
He also referenced an incident on February 12, 2026, where he claimed there were plans to arrest him upon arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, describing it as part of a pattern of targeted actions against him.
The court had initially fixed April 21 for ruling on the bail application before the latest adjournment to June.
