The Anambra State Police Command has thwarted a cult initiation ceremony in Nawfia, located in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, arresting six individuals in the process.

The operation, carried out on June 15, 2025, was based on actionable intelligence. During the raid, officers recovered a pump-action gun, two live cartridges, two cutlasses, a Lexus SUV, and several other incriminating items.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests and the recovery of weapons and cult paraphernalia.

“On June 15, 2025, at about 9:30 am, operatives acting on intelligence disrupted a cult initiation at Nawfia,” Ikenga stated. “Six suspects were arrested, and items recovered include a Jojef pump-action gun, two live cartridges, a gold-coloured Lexus SUV (Reg No: ATN 202 AE), two cutlasses, scissors, a cap bearing the logo of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, charms, hard substances, and other illegal materials.”

The arrested suspects were identified as Nwadike Chibuike, Anierobi Precious, Raphael Ebube, Ezechi Benjamin, Okafor Chidera, and Chiema Okoye—all male and aged between 20 and 30.

Ikenga noted that the suspects are currently being interrogated as part of ongoing investigations, after which they will be formally charged in court.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, which he linked to several other serious crimes, stressing the continued efforts to rid the state of such criminal activities.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
