The Nigeria Customs Service has started a nationwide survey to understand how its officers and stakeholders perceive corruption, transparency and integrity within the organisation.

The 2026 Customs Integrity Perception Survey, approved by Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adeniyi, is being conducted with the World Customs Organisation under its Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion Programme.

The exercise began on September 28 and will run until October 9, 2026. Customs said the survey is designed to collect honest feedback about integrity and anti-corruption issues and identify areas where its operations can be improved.

The Service said the survey is anonymous and encouraged officers to provide candid responses based on their experiences and perceptions. Officers will participate through a dedicated online platform, while eligible stakeholders will use a separate platform with one-time passwords provided through Customs Public Relations Units.

Customs said 5,000 OTPs had been generated for the stakeholder section of the survey.

The stakeholders expected to participate include licensed customs agents, importers, exporters, bonded warehouse and terminal operators, shipping lines, airline operators, free trade zone operators, excise traders and transporters.

Command Public Relations Officers have been directed to work with Customs Area Controllers and relevant operational units to mobilise participants and ensure the survey reaches eligible stakeholders.

According to the Service, the findings will help strengthen its integrity mechanisms, improve operational processes and support continuous institutional development.

Customs also said broad participation would help ensure that the survey findings accurately reflect the experiences of officers and stakeholders across its various operational environments, with the ultimate aim of improving operations and strengthening public confidence.
