CUSTOMS BOSS COMMISSIONS SCHOOL AND HEALTH CENTRE IN LAGOS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to social development through targeted investments in underserved communities. He made this known during the commissioning of a newly renovated school and healthcare centre in Sagbokoji, a riverine community in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The commissioning, held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, marked the latest phase of the NCS’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, known as ‘Customs Cares’. The programme is designed to uplift vulnerable communities by providing access to essential infrastructure, particularly in education and healthcare.
As part of the intervention, the NCS completed the comprehensive renovation of the Local Authority Primary School and the Primary Healthcare Centre in Sagbokoji — two vital institutions serving residents in the remote island community.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi emphasized the NCS’s people-focused approach:
“We are undertaking projects that will have direct impact on our schools and our students. We have brought school bags, exercise books, textbooks, and sandals for all the pupils of this school. We are also improving infrastructure where we see the deficit, and what we have chosen to do is to renovate the entire school.”
The gesture has been widely praised by community members and stakeholders, with many describing it as a crucial step toward bridging infrastructural gaps in hard-to-reach areas.
Adeniyi reiterated that the Service remains committed to initiatives that promote national development beyond its core mandate of trade facilitation and revenue generation.
