The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has commended British American Tobacco Nigeria for what he described as its commitment to regulatory compliance and contribution to the Nigerian economy. He made the remarks during a visit to BAT Nigeria’s factory in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Adeniyi said the company had demonstrated compliance with customs regulations and other government requirements. He noted that cooperation between regulatory agencies and businesses was important to ensuring smooth operations while strengthening government revenue collection and supporting legitimate commercial activities.

The Customs chief also highlighted the company’s contribution through employment, investments and its participation in Nigeria’s tax system. He said businesses that comply with relevant regulations help create a more predictable operating environment and contribute to the broader development of the economy.

During the visit, BAT Nigeria officials presented the company’s operations and outlined some of its sustainability and business initiatives. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to working with government agencies and complying with applicable laws governing its operations in the country.

The engagement underscored the importance of collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and private-sector operators. Adeniyi said the Customs Service would continue to engage businesses and other stakeholders to improve compliance, facilitate legitimate trade and support economic activities across the country.
