The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area II Command, Onne, Rivers State, has announced that it generated a total of N859 billion in revenue between May 2024 and July 2025.

Within the same period, the command also intercepted contraband valued at over N200 billion, ranging from arms and ammunition to dangerous pharmaceuticals and banned substances.

This was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Theophilus Duniya, in a statement on Thursday highlighting the achievements recorded under the leadership of Comptroller Muhammad Babandede, who recently completed his tenure as the Area Controller.

Babandede, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptroller General, led the Onne Command for 15 months. During this time, the command seized 544 assorted rifles, 112,500 rounds of ammunition, 75 million tablets of tramadol, 14 million bottles of codeine syrup, and over 50 million expired or fake drugs, all valued at more than N200 billion in duty paid terms.

On revenue collection, the statement revealed steady monthly figures ranging from N47 billion to N66 billion, culminating in the record-breaking N859 billion generated over the period.

Commending the feat, Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, praised Babandede and his team for their diligence and professionalism in safeguarding the nation’s economy and security.

“The Onne Command, under Babandede’s leadership, consistently disrupted smuggling operations and exposed importers of prohibited items,” Adeniyi said.

He added that the seizures were made in line with customs laws on concealment, false declarations, and the importation of banned products.

“I deeply appreciate the officers of the Port Harcourt Area II Command for their relentless efforts. Their commitment to duty and the fight against smuggling is commendable, and their contribution to national security will not go unnoticed,” the Customs chief stated.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
