CUSTOMS RECOVER N30BN IN DUTY DRIVE, WARN 10 AIRCRAFT RISK SEIZURE

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recovered over ₦30 billion through an intensified import duty enforcement exercise, with 10 privately operated aircraft now facing possible seizure over unpaid duties.

The agency said the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to improve revenue collection, ensure compliance with import regulations, and close loopholes that have led to significant revenue losses. According to Customs, the affected aircraft owners have been notified to settle their outstanding obligations or risk enforcement actions, including the seizure of the jets.

Officials noted that the recovered funds reflect the government's commitment to strengthening fiscal discipline and ensuring all importers meet their statutory obligations. The enforcement exercise also targets businesses and individuals who fail to declare imported assets or evade applicable duties.

The NCS reiterated that compliance with import regulations remains essential for promoting fair trade and boosting government revenue. It added that the operation will continue as authorities intensify efforts to curb duty evasion and improve accountability across Nigeria's import and aviation sectors.
