CYBERCAFé OPERATOR IN TROUBLE OVER ₦1.5M LASCOHET ADMISSION SCAM
A cybercafé operator, Mr. Kehinde Michael Arapatile, has been accused of defrauding a prospective student of the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) of ₦1.5 million under the guise of securing her admission.
The allegation was confirmed by the Provost of LASCOHET, Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, who vowed that the suspect would face sanctions.
According to a petition submitted to the institution’s management, the victim (whose name was withheld) claimed she paid Arapatile ₦500,000 upfront to facilitate her admission into the Health Assistant programme. When the admission did not come through, Arapatile allegedly promised to help her obtain a certificate without attending classes.
Suspicious of the arrangement, the applicant demanded a refund. Instead, she said Arapatile threatened her to remain silent, forcing her to report the matter officially.
During questioning by the school authorities, Arapatile reportedly admitted to the allegations but claimed the deal was connected to a professional body he called CIMB, where he claimed to be a liaison officer. He was, however, unable to explain what the acronym stood for.
Professor Akewushola revealed that stamp pads belonging to different institutions were recovered from Arapatile’s shop, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
“Whosoever transacts any business with him does so at his or her own risk,” Akewushola cautioned.
