Nollywood actress Dakore Akande has spoken publicly for the first time following the passing of her father.

The sad news was earlier announced by her brother, actor Timini Egbuson, who revealed that their father died at the start of the year. Timini expressed deep grief over the loss, stating that he never imagined beginning the year by bidding farewell to his dad, while pledging to continue making him proud.

Taking to her Instagram page, Dakore poured out her heart in a deeply emotional tribute, describing herself as devastated by the loss but comforted by the thought that her father is finally free from pain.

She expressed gratitude for the cherished memories they shared, the laughter, and the values of excellence he instilled in her and her siblings. Dakore also highlighted her father’s love for music and his distinctive sense of style, which she said left a lasting impression on the family.

Despite acknowledging the complexities within their family, the actress emphasised that her father was deeply loved and would be missed beyond words.

In her words, Dakore wrote:

“My darling Dakorians, my dearest Papa passed away on the 1st of January 2026.
Daddy, may your soul rest in perfect peace and power.

I’m so totally heartbroken yet glad that you’re free from pain. I’m grateful for the memories and the laughter, your legacy of excellence that you instilled in my siblings and me, your love for music, and your sense of style.

Despite the complexity of our family, you are immensely loved and missed beyond comprehension.

I love you forever, till infinity and beyond.

Please say a word of prayer for my dad and our family at this very difficult time as we grieve this devastating loss.”

The actress’s loss comes amid a wave of bereavements within the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Recently, actress Lizzy Gold also lost her father, expressing heartbreak over his passing just as he was expected to cross into the new year. In October, comedian Julius Agwu mourned his mother, sharing an emotional tribute as he prayed for her peaceful rest.

In September, award-winning actress Mercy Aigbe announced the death of her mother, Mrs Abisola Grace Owodunni, with a candlelight post on social media. Actor Odunlade Adekola also lost his father, Pastor N.A. Adekola, in August, sharing the sad news with fans online.

Other stars who have suffered similar losses include Yoruba actor Adekola Tijani, actress Nuella Njubigbo, Ini Edo, who described her late father as her greatest supporter, and comedian Woli Arole, who referred to his father as his hero and role model.
