DAMAGED POWER FACILITY LEAVES OGUN COMMUNITY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY
Residents of Arepo in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have been left without electricity following damage to a power facility operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The outage was caused by a shattered insulator at the TCN end of the network, according to the Secretary of the Arepo Area Community Development Council Electricity Committee, Akinlolu Akinpelumi.
Akinpelumi said in a statement on Monday that TCN maintenance engineers were already working to fix the fault. He expressed hope that the repair would be completed quickly to allow Ikeja Electric to restore power to the community.
He assured residents that the electricity committee would continue to monitor the repairs and engage the relevant authorities until supply was restored.
The latest blackout comes amid longstanding complaints from Arepo residents over poor electricity supply. Residents had previously reported experiencing prolonged outages, including a four-month period when they claimed they received barely two hours of electricity daily despite being classified under Band B of the service-based tariff system.
Community leaders have repeatedly engaged Ikeja Electric and transmission authorities over the situation, saying the unreliable power supply has disrupted businesses and daily activities.
Residents are now waiting for the completion of the TCN repairs and the subsequent restoration of electricity by Ikeja Electric.
