Chapter One: The Morning That Changed Everything

It was a faithful Wednesday morning in Lagos.

The time was exactly 5:10AM Personal Safety: 10 Most Dangerous Bus Stops You Must Avoid In Lagos the kind of morning when the sky is still dark, and the city is just waking up. I left my house as usual, heading to Berger bus stop, ready to board a danfo to the office.

The air was cool. The roads were still stretching from sleep. I stood at the park waiting like every other working-class Lagosian. Minutes passed. Fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes.

Finally, a danfo pulled up.

I entered quickly and found a seat at the back. And that was when I saw them.

Two beautiful ladies were seated there.

Not just beautiful but well put together, calm, and glowing even in the early morning light. I sat beside them, trying to keep my composure. Lagos trains you to mind your business… but this time, it was hard.

One of them she stood out.

Her face was soft. Her smile was calm. Her presence? Different.

My heart was beating like I had run from Ojota to Berger.

We were almost at my bus stop about three minutes away  and I knew if I didn’t speak, I would regret it all day.

I gathered courage.

“Can I call you?” I asked gently.

She smiled.

Not just a normal smile a warm one.

Then she stretched her hand and asked for my phone.

I gave it to her immediately.

She typed in her number and handed it back.

Her name was Joy.

And just like that, I stepped down at my bus stop, but something told me my life had just shifted slightly.

Chapter Two: The Voice That Stole My Peace

Later that day, I couldn’t hold myself.

I had to be sure.

Was the number real?

Or was it one of those Lagos “wrong digit” stories?

I called.

She picked.

My heart relaxed instantly.

I introduced myself  “I’m the guy who asked for your number inside the danfo this morning.”

She laughed softly. her voice…Calm. Sweet. Mature. Full of life.

That was the moment something changed inside me.

We talked for a while. She was jovial. She was smart. She had the exact vibe I like in a woman playful but respectful, calm but lively.

From that day, we started talking regularly.

Calls. Video calls. Gists. Cruise. Laughter.

She would call when she was less busy. I would call too. Conversations that started as “hello” would end one hour later without us realizing it Feelings began to grow.

Slowly.

Deeply.

I found myself wanting her around every day.

And the sweetest part?

Her street wasn’t far from mine.

Berger had done more than give me a ride that morning it gave me Joy.

Chapter Three: Distance, Promises & Something Serious

Just when everything was beginning to feel perfect, life introduced a twist.

She told me she would be moving.

Packing out from her street.

Relocating to another town.

I felt it in my chest.

That heavy feeling.

Like Lagos traffic on a Friday evening unexpected and frustrating.

But instead of fear breaking us, it made us talk more seriously.

We assured ourselves.

Distance would not end something that started beautifully.

We promised to make time for each other.

More calls.

Planned visits.

More intentional effort.

Now, what started at 5:10AM at Berger bus stop has become something deeper.

Something serious.

Something real.

And sometimes I think…

If that danfo had delayed five more minutes,
If I didn’t summon courage,
If I decided to “mind my business” like Lagos teaches…

Maybe I would never have met Joy.

But I did.

And now, every time I pass Berger bus stop, I smile.

Because sometimes in Lagos between traffic, danfo shouts, and early morning rush love can quietly enter your life when you least expect it.
