DANGOTE GROUP DENIES REPORTED LINK TO TRUCK IN ENUGU CRASH
Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from the truck involved in a fatal accident in Enugu on Wednesday morning.
The accident, which occurred around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla. The truck, which bore the inscription of Visco Investment Global Limited, was reportedly en route from Aba to Abuja when the crash happened.
Due to the truck’s branding, some online reports linked it to Dangote Group. However, the company clarified in a statement that the vehicle was operated by a third party and not part of its fleet.
“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to determine why the truck carried our logo when it does not belong to our company,” the statement read. “Moving forward, we will strengthen measures against the unauthorized use of our brand identity, particularly the misuse of our logo on vehicles unrelated to the Group.”
The management explained that while the company typically avoids commenting on individual incidents, the widespread misinformation necessitated a response. It urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified claims.
Dangote Group also assured full cooperation with relevant authorities investigating the accident. “We are committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and emphasize that it should be allowed to proceed without interference. We strongly oppose attempts to exploit tragedies such as this for malicious or financial purposes,” the statement added.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to corporate responsibility, safety, and integrity.
In recent years, trucks bearing Dangote branding have been frequently associated with road accidents, drawing public criticism and social media outcry.
One of the most notable cases was the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor. Ruth died after her leg was amputated following an accident involving a truck linked to the conglomerate near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Her family, in a statement issued through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, confirmed that she passed away around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday while they were still pursuing justice and compensation. The accident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, just six days after Ruth had graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Eyewitnesses recounted that the heavy-duty truck crushed her leg before it was intercepted by a bystander.
These recurring incidents have intensified calls from Nigerians for stricter regulations on heavy-duty trucks connected to the conglomerate, with critics often accusing the company of not doing enough to check reckless driving by operators of such vehicles.
