DANGOTE REACTS TO DEATH OF PHYNA’S SISTER, SAYS PLANS WERE MADE TO FLY HER TO INDIA
The Dangote Group has reacted to the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, saying it had already made arrangements to fly her to India for advanced treatment before her passing.
Ruth died on Sunday after battling injuries she sustained in a tragic accident involving a Dangote Cement truck along the Auchi road in Edo State. The accident had led to the amputation of her legs, sparking widespread sympathy and anger.
Phyna had earlier accused Dangote of failing to keep its promise of supporting her late sister’s treatment abroad.
But in a condolence statement posted on its official X account, the Dangote Group expressed deep sadness over Ruth’s death and clarified that efforts were ongoing to take her abroad for further care.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo state. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the company said.
The statement added that since the accident, the company and its insurance partners had taken responsibility for all medical and financial costs, while also supporting the family throughout the ordeal.
It was further explained that Ruth’s transfer to India was only awaiting medical clearance from her doctors when she sadly passed away.
Her death has reignited conversations about road safety, corporate responsibility, and the emotional toll on families affected by accidents involving heavy-duty trucks.
