The Dangote Refinery has successfully raised $2.5 billion in fresh capital, with indications that the company may list on the Nigerian Exchange as early as August.

The announcement was made on Friday by the refinery’s Group Managing Director, Mr. Devakumar Edwin, who described the capital raise as a major milestone that will support the refinery’s operations and expansion plans.

“This $2.5 billion infusion demonstrates the confidence investors have in our vision. We are on track to become a major player in the global energy market and may consider going public in August,” Edwin stated.

The funds will be used to optimise refinery operations, expand storage facilities, and invest in downstream projects. The refinery has been operating at increasing capacity and is expected to play a significant role in Nigeria’s quest for self-sufficiency in petroleum products.

Industry analysts have welcomed the development, noting that the capital raise and potential public listing could boost investor interest in the energy sector and contribute to the growth of the Nigerian capital market.

The Dangote Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is one of the largest single-train refineries in the world. Its successful operation is expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel and generate significant revenue for the country.

The company has faced various challenges since commencing operations, including feedstock supply and foreign exchange issues. The fresh capital is expected to help address some of these challenges and improve overall efficiency.

Stakeholders believe that a public listing could provide greater transparency and attract more investment into the refinery. The Nigerian Exchange Limited has expressed readiness to support the process and ensure a smooth listing.

As the Dangote Refinery continues to ramp up production, the capital raise and potential listing are seen as strategic moves to strengthen its position in the African and global energy markets.
