DAVIDO PAUSES MUSIC CAREER TO CAMPAIGN FOR ADELEKE AHEAD OF OSUN 2026 ELECTION
In a move that blends celebrity influence with grassroots politics, Afrobeats star Davido has announced a temporary pause in his music career to support the re-election bid of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.
The singer made this known in Ede during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, where he was unveiled as chairman, signaling a more hands-on role in the political process.
For the next two months, Davido says his focus will shift from stages and studios to streets and communities across Osun State.
“I have put my musical career on hold… not only because he is my uncle but because he is doing a good job,” he said, making it clear that his support goes beyond family ties.
At the heart of this move is one key target: the youth.
Davido emphasised the importance of engaging young voters, describing the mobilisation team as one of the most critical arms of the campaign. His strategy is simple but effective, meet people where they are.
From door-to-door conversations to community-level engagement, he urged members to actively spread awareness about the governor’s achievements and future plans.
“Let us carry out door-to-door mobilisation… engage people within your communities,” he charged.
This approach taps into something powerful, connection. Not social media impressions or viral moments, but real conversations with real people.
And it raises an interesting question: how much influence do celebrities truly have when it comes to politics?
In Nigeria, this isn’t new. From past election cycles to the notable youth-driven momentum seen during the 2023 Nigerian general elections, entertainers have often stepped into the political space, using their platforms to mobilise and influence public opinion.
But Davido’s involvement feels different in one key way, commitment.
Stepping away from a thriving music career, even temporarily, sends a strong message about priorities and belief. It shows a willingness to trade global attention for local impact, at least for a moment.
Political observers will be watching closely to see how this plays out. Will his influence translate into votes? Will it energise more young people to participate in the electoral process?
One thing is certain, this move has already sparked conversation.
Because beyond the headlines, it highlights a bigger shift: a generation that is no longer just watching politics from the sidelines, but actively stepping into it, using influence, voice, and presence to shape outcomes.
For now, the music may be on pause, but the message is loud and clear.
