DELTA APC PLEDGES ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGN, WARNS AGAINST ELECTORAL VIOLENCE
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to conduct an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, while warning its members and supporters against violence and other actions capable of disrupting the electoral process.
The party said its campaign would focus on policies, governance, development priorities and the presentation of its candidates’ plans to voters rather than personal attacks or confrontations with political opponents.
The pledge comes as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the next general election, with parties expected to mobilise supporters, engage communities and promote their programmes across the state.
The Delta APC emphasised the need for peaceful political participation, urging members to respect opposing views and avoid inflammatory statements that could heighten tensions. It also called on political stakeholders to ensure that disagreements are resolved through lawful and democratic means.
Electoral violence remains a concern in Nigeria, where confrontations between supporters of rival parties have sometimes resulted in injuries, destruction of property and disruptions to voting. Political observers have consistently stressed that peaceful campaigns are essential to protecting democratic participation and ensuring credible elections.
The party maintained that campaigns should provide opportunities for candidates to explain their positions on issues affecting residents, including employment, infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and economic development.
An issue-based approach, political stakeholders say, can help voters make informed decisions by allowing them to compare candidates’ policies, records and proposed solutions to public challenges.
The APC also urged security agencies and electoral authorities to remain vigilant and enforce relevant laws against individuals or groups attempting to undermine peaceful political activities.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, the party’s commitment to a violence-free campaign will be measured by the conduct of its candidates, members and supporters throughout the electoral process.
The development underscores the importance of political responsibility and peaceful competition in strengthening democracy and ensuring that voters can participate freely without intimidation or fear.
