Affected healthcare professionals and pensioners appeal to state government to compel release of accumulated savings withheld despite court case withdrawal

Healthcare workers and retirees under the Delta State Hospital Management Board (HMB) Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society have appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for urgent intervention to recover over ₦70 million in withheld cooperative funds.

The affected workers and retirees expressed frustration that despite the formal withdrawal of a long-standing court case surrounding the administration of the cooperative on June 18, their accumulated monthly savings remain withheld. Representatives of the group disclosed that the inability to access the funds has paralyzed operations, preventing the society from convening its Annual General Meeting (AGM) or paying out entitlements to retired members, many of whom are facing severe financial hardship and medical emergencies.

Cooperative officials confirmed that a formal letter detailing their plight was submitted to the office of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice on October 9, outlining that essential administrative functions and payouts could not proceed without the release of the funds. They urged the state government to mandate the immediate release of their money to enable the society to meet its obligations to members and surviving families of deceased colleagues.

The group reiterated its call on Governor Oborevwori to step in and enforce administrative accountability across supervisory bodies, emphasizing that the withheld ₦70 million represents personal statutory deductions from the hard-earned salaries of active and retired public health personnel in Delta State.
