Veteran Nigerian media personality Denrele Edun has voiced his frustration over what he describes as the neglect of his significant contributions to the country’s entertainment industry, despite being a trailblazer in many aspects of showbiz.

In an exclusive interview with Sunday Scoop, Denrele emphasized his groundbreaking role in shaping Nigeria’s red carpet culture—an innovation he believes has been largely ignored by the industry.

“I began my career in 1994 and was the first to turn the red carpet into an event in its own right. Before then, no one paid much attention to it. Today, people come mainly for the red carpet and show little interest in the main event,” he explained.

Famous for his flamboyant fashion and vibrant interviewing style, Denrele recounted his days at a major music channel, where his presence attracted even high-ranking politicians and government officials to events just to interact with him.

“I have a talent for making people feel special. As a body language expert, I’ve collaborated with numerous brands over the years to create memorable red carpet experiences. Meeting me is not just a conversation; it’s an experience,” he said.

Looking back on his career, Denrele described himself as both a “trendsetter” and “culture shaper,” but expressed disappointment that his extensive body of work has not been properly acknowledged.

“My work is one of the most undervalued and underappreciated in the industry,” he lamented.

Denrele’s continued influence and unique style remain undeniable, but his call for recognition highlights the challenges faced by pioneers whose contributions are often overlooked in Nigeria’s entertainment scene.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
