DESMOND ELLIOT JOKES ABOUT MIDLIFE CRISIS WHILE EXPLAINING UNUSUAL AMVCA OUTFIT
Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot recently stirred up social media with his unconventional outfit at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot turned heads at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) with a striking black two-piece outfit featuring a shirt and a skirt boldly adorned with an elephant print.
The unconventional, gender-fluid ensemble sparked a wave of mixed reactions on social media, but the actor-turned-politician revealed that his fashion choice carried a deeper message.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, Elliot explained the motivation behind the look:
“I’m more involved in politics now, so when the opportunity comes to step out, I want to do it differently. No need for loud words—let your appearance make the statement. It could go either way: you could get it right or completely miss the mark. But life is about taking risks, and at 50, bold choices are necessary.”
“What gives me confidence now is the elephant imprint,” Desmond Elliot said. “It has always been symbolic for me because of what the elephant represents—power, strength, loyalty, stability, and love.”
When asked if he enjoys the attention that comes with being in the spotlight, Elliot responded, “I wouldn’t say I love it, but it’s fine. These days, I don’t go to extremes. When you go through what people call a ‘midlife crisis,’ you start paying more attention to how you feel in the moment. For me, it’s just a way of expressing that everyone should be free to live their lives.”
When pressed further on whether he was experiencing a midlife crisis, Elliot added with a laugh, “That’s if I’m not still in it.”
