DHQ EXPLAINS CONFUSION OVER SIMILAR NAMES OF NEUTRALISED TERROR LEADERS
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has addressed public confusion over reports concerning the identities of recently neutralised terrorist leaders, saying similarities in their names have led to misunderstandings in some media publications.
Military authorities explained that intelligence operations often involve multiple targets with closely related aliases, which can create overlap in public reporting when details are not properly verified.
According to the DHQ, terrorist networks in the Lake Chad and Sahel regions frequently use interchangeable names, nicknames, and operational titles, making accurate identification a complex process during counterterrorism operations.
The military stressed that all confirmed operations undergo strict verification before official announcements are made, based on intelligence assessments and field reports.
It added that recent successes against insurgent groups remain valid and have significantly disrupted terrorist command structures despite attempts by some actors to misinterpret the identities of those affected.
The DHQ urged the media and the public to rely on official briefings to avoid misinformation that could distort ongoing security operations.
It reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups until they are fully degraded and neutralised across affected regions.
